Does Nintendo Plan On Creating A New Handheld System, A Step Better Than The Ds Lite?

I like the fact that the games are available in the DS until atleast the end of 2009. Nintendo plans to modernize the Nintendo DS Lite, because they are the original DS? AND / OR to create an entirely new Nintendo portable system?
